We have had a group discussion at Victoria Lodge to answer the questions set by the Speak out Council. The subject was relationships.
A group of 10 people talked this over for about two hours and produced a very good list for the council to use.
The first question was:
Who are the most important people in your life and why.
Answers:
Mum and Dad, sisters, brothers
Step dad,
We see these people every day and they are our family. We grew up with them.
Support staff, care managers, respite families.
These people help us to do things we want or to learn new things. We go to places and do things that we might not be able to do without their help.
The second question was:
What makes a relationship work well.
Answers
We talked about this for a long while. We have a list of things that we think make any relationship work.
- Respect
- Communication
- Trust
- Common interests
- Having fun/humour
Here is a chart that we drew while we talked about the questions.
Welcome to the Welcome Project.
Two of our people have started to run the reception desk at Hereward Hall on a Tuesday. They are both volunteers and are taking part in the project to develop their work skills.
At the moment this is a pilot for the project. We are hoping that we can run the reception on other days which will give other people the chance to get involved.
We would like to wish both volunteers good luck with the project.

Congratulations to David Richardson. He is one of our relief support workers here at Victoria Lodge.
He was recently awarded a County Council employee recognition award for all his extra work with our service users. He is always willing to help out and to make sure that everyone is safe and having a good time.
He often comes to the centre to entertain us with his whacky alter ego, Mr Jaffa. He gives all a good laugh with his antics and unique sense of humour.
We would all like to say well done and thank you for just being you!
